Due to growth and customer demand we are currently recruiting for a Buyer III to join our team in Santa Teresa, NM.


Under general direction, responsible for leading procurement assignments including the purchase of important items, requiring extensive or specialized knowledge or experience. May lead the supply base management for a small business unit or for an international location. Works to achieve maximum strategic sourcing coverage for both procurement dollars and part numbers. Manages supplier delivery/quality problems, capacity constraints, etc. and ensures that the supplier has developed a corrective action plan. Assumes the lead role in integrating supplier participation in the engineering design process. Duties may include providing work leadership and training to Procurement Assistants to ensure high skill levels.


  • Supervise the procurement of direct and indirect materials including highly complex products. Ensure that all orders are maintained in the SAP database and that all payment, delivery issues, etc. are resolved. Responsibilities may include personnel management in terms of prioritizing staff workloads.

  • Conduct cost/price analysis for all products under jurisdiction with emphasis on high dollar and sole source procurements. Analyze historical commodity trends and contribute to the development of projected commodity trends for use in formulating each fiscal year Materials Economic Plan. Participate in the analysis of competitive pricing received under the strategic sourcing program.

  • Maintain positive working relationship with supplier base. Establish qualified suppliers by serving as the focal point for arranging and conducting quality audits of new potential strategic source suppliers. Manage supplier delivery/quality problems, capacity constraints, etc. and ensure that the supplier has developed a corrective action plan. Ensure that the Supplier Performance Index governing quality and delivery ratings are considered before deciding to procure material from a particular vendor. Ensure that all procurements are based on competitive bids submitted by qualified suppliers. Continue to analyze and assess the adequacy of our supplier base for each commodity or category and to develop additional sources of supply where deemed advantageous.

  • Coordinates with Design Engineering to identify and negotiate cost reduction areas during the product design phase of new products (Prior to the release of the bill of material). Assumes the lead role in integrating supplier participation in the engineering design process.

  • Works to achieve maximum strategic sourcing coverage for both procurement dollars and part numbers. Identifies commodities and categories for strategic sourcing agreements and screens buyer commitment reports on an ongoing basis to identify new part categories or individual part numbers for strategic sourcing. Ensure that commodity forecasts and supplier performance data is furnished by the business units in an accurate and timely manner. Negotiates contracts where losses occurring through errors in judgment would involve a large dollar amount. Develop subcontract specifications, work statements and terms and conditions for the procurement of specialized materials, equipment and services. Assess subcontractors with regards to capacity planning.

  • A completed Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering or related field preferred with a minimum 5 years of purchasing experience preferred or a completed Associates Degree Accounting, Finance, Business, Engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of purchasing experience required.

  • Must have knowledge of all product lines and associated manufacturing processes under area of responsibility and extensive knowledge of product lines under area of procurement.

  • Has procured at least 5 major procurement commodities with metal fabrication, injection molding, packaging and fiber optic components experience preferred.

  • Experience in purchasing technical commodities requiring close interface with engineering.

  • Successfully demonstrated negotiation skills.

  • Well versed in cost/price analysis techniques.

  • Capable of writing special terms and conditions in view specialized procurement situations.

  • Capable of accurately analyzing supplier financial data, e.g. balance sheets and P&L statements to determine the financial viability of existing and potential supplier base.

  • SAP experience strongly preferred

  • Certifications Preferred-CPSM or CPM.

  • Up to 25% travel required-domestic and international. Must able and willing to travel to Mexico.

  • Fluency in Spanish will be preferred.
