Under supervision, is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks and assisting senior maintenance mechanics with the performance of building construction, maintenance and remodeling tasks in one or more maintenance areas (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning/HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and facility space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize operational space within the facilities.
Assists in performing HVAC work (e.g. adjusting and calibrating thermostats, pneumatic controls, periodic preventive and corrective maintenance, and electric energy management systems) to maintain an efficient operating environment for the site.
Performs minor electrical maintenance, to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.).
Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.) to provide operable and efficient facilities for department personnel.
Assists in the installation and repair of plumbing and pipefittings for building systems, requiring work with copper, steel, cast iron, and PVC piping. Installs, modifies, replaces, or repairs lavatory piping systems and fixtures.
Assists in maintaining and repairing overhead door systems to include panels, tracks, balance of springs, power and control systems.
As applicable, incumbent will construct, install, remodel and repair a variety of facility components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, masonry walls; construct a variety of specialized items as required; build forms; pour and finish concrete.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Formal education/technical training in a field related to building maintenance through a recognized trade school a plus.
Minimum of two (2) years of general building or facilities maintenance experience;
Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems;
Experience with hand and power tools; some experience with shop equipment such as drill presses, etc.
Capable of learning to operate power grounds maintenance equipment.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
Ability to stand and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift, with assistance, up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and site plans.
