As a PMO IT Portfolio Manager in Hickory, NC, you are responsible for managing the IT project portfolio and ensuring deliverables meet or exceed stakeholder expectations. This includes ensuring programs are aligned with strategic business plans. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for examining existing project and process governance practices, evaluating them within the context of organization gals, and proposing changes or enhancements to help achieve those goals. The Portfolio Manager will assist IT in preparation of decision items, change management plans, departmental strategies as they relate to project and IT areas. Working closely with fiscal partners, the Portfolio Manager aligns projects/programs/products with strategy, prioritization, and resource management across the IT portfolio.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serve as the “front door” for portfolio management, resource allocation and demand management.
Provide leadership with analysis of inflight and proposed projects within portfolio.
Apply a structured methodology and lead change management activities for the portfolio.
Consistently use best practice metrics and measures enabling timely and effective decision making.
Work with the IT Directors, Resource Owners, Project Managers to understand the resource needs of each project (skills, expertise, timing and numbers from various functions) and coordinate resolution of resource conflicts.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of the overall portfolio project roadmap, including non-project requests.
Manage portfolio risks and takes appropriate actions to mitigate, control and ensure strong governance.
Proactively manage portfolio issues, taking action to achieve urgent resolution and escalating promptly and clearly where necessary.
Provide visibility of portfolio progress against budget and schedule to enable informed executive decisions and actions to be taken.
Ensure the benefits are assessed at the start of the portfolio lifecycle, that they are managed during the portfolio lifecycle, and that the realization is met.
Continually re-balance the portfolio based on changing functional needs, resource capacity constraints, risk exposure and interdependencies.
Ensure adoption and implementation of project and program management methodology in support of managing the defined portfolio.
Ensure that project and process reviews occur after completion of key milestones and deliver of projects.
Education & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, IS or related curriculum
12 or more years technology project management experience with at least 8 years of portfolio management experience
Experience with Project Portfolio Management tools: preferably Planview
Advanced understanding of application design, development, testing, integration and support
Proven aptitude for time and task management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team-oriented attitude, and the ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization
MBA or Master’s Degree in IS or related field
Relevant IT certifications (i.e. ITIL, Service Management, Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, PMP, etc.)
Scrum Master Certification; experience with Agile development practices.
Expertise in SAP
Knowledge of Manufacturing industry/Supply Chain Management
