General Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing, developing and supporting the engineering team and their efforts for the business by providing technical leadership and direction. This position will focus on the delivery and execution of new product development while maintaining support of legacy product lines. This individual should be an experienced technical leader, project and personnel manager with a strong engineering background and proven history of product development.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs daily activities of the engineering team. Ensures staff and resources are prioritized and aligned to meet the business requirements.

  • Makes appropriate recommendations regarding scope and resource requirements of projects.

  • Participates in strategic planning activities to ensure that the department is positioned to meet the business requirements.

  • Guides team to work within the structure of standardized product development and project management processes. Monitors and measures project performance and reports project status to management team

  • Establishes and maintains an effective staff through performance appraisals, staffing, and developing technical competence.

  • Demonstrates sound engineering principles and a structured analytical approach to problem solving.

  • Provides direction in technical reviews, risk assessment, and root cause analysis to the team and the organization. Provides technical guidance, training, and support throughout the entire organization.

  • Promotes and cultivates innovation and champions continuous improvement. Facilitates process, cost reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Daily technical interface to manufacturing, quality, supply chain, PLM organizations. Maintains strong and proactive relationships with all functional areas of the business unit to deliver optimal product solutions to the customer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering(BSME) required.

  • 8 years of experience with an advanced degree in a related area preferred, engineering or management.

  • Minimum of 5 - 10 years of engineering product development experience required.

  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of personnel management experience required.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading and managing teams, including direct reports.

  • Broad understanding of mechanical engineering principles required.

  • Experience with analytical tools and techniques such as process capability studies, root cause analysis, FMEA’s, DOE’s, probability & statistics.

  • Knowledge of relevant design practices, manufacturing processes, and industry specifications.

  • Experience within a stage-gate product development processes.

  • Skilled in project management, managing technical professionals, and demonstrated ability to lead and direct multiple concurrent projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Electrical and/or optical experience a plus.
